HAVE YOU “WALKED A MILE IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES”?
Have you made the effort to understand what another person may be going through emotionally? Physically?
Have you gone beyond seeing another’s world from their perspective to feel their emotions AS IF YOU WERE THEM?
THIS IS THE MEANING
OF EMPATHY…
…to recognize, acknowledge, and understand the experiences and feelings of others.
To “Walk a mile in their shoes”.
AVOID JUDGEMENT
How can you judge someone when you don’t know what it’s like to be in their shoes, to experience their condition?
HOW CAN WE DEVELOP EMPATHY?
Pay ATTENTION and listen actively.
Remember, this is about THEM, not you.
Replace anger with COMPASSION.
Be OPEN – share your own struggles.
Understand MOTIVE – what is the WHY?
Look for SIMILARITIES, not differences.
Do not JUDGE hastily.
